This Sunday, the first episode of the Learn Together series will be broadcasted on Lao National TV Channel 3 at 4.45 pm and PSTV at 10.30 am. There will be a new episode every two weeks. All episodes will also be available for unlimited viewing on the YouTube Channel ຮຽນຮູ້ຮ່ວມກັນ Learn Together Laos
Learn Together is a creative way to help young Lao children to learn better with the new primary curriculum and the new active learning approach. The themes of the episodes follow the school-year to help children develop the skills to learn better. The series features multi-media content with clay animation, as well as live action and storytelling, all done by Lao artists.
Learn Together was designed with primarily educational purposes in mind while relying heavily on entertainment to attract the young audience. The concept of education through entertainment, or “edutainment” has been used worldwide by academia, governments and other organizations to influence viewers’ opinions and attitudes and to address education, health, and social issues. It’s a methodology still rare in South East Asia and the pioneers of edutainment in Laos are the creators of Learn Together. The Learn Together initiative is led by the Ministry of Education and Sports, in collaboration with the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, with support from the Australian Government and the European Union. The series is produced by Clay House Studios, a Lao film making and animation company.
The theme of the first episode that will be broadcasted on Sunday 11th August is “getting ready to start school”. All the main characters of the series will appear in this first episode as their journey into their first year of school unfolds. The charming Miss Nok Young will present the program with Nok Noy, a clay animated little bird. These scenes involved special effects to get thelittle clay bird talking and flying around.
Mrs Dadar will tell the captivating story of a cute little bird who also wants to go to school… The clay animation will certainly be the favorite part of the children. The animation was shot in stop motion technique with 15 pictures per second. All the characters are made with a secret clay recipe by the Art Director Souliya Phounmivong, an inspirational young Lao artist. All sets are hand made by the Clay House studios team of Lao artists. In the first episode, the audience will discover Ban Pha Pa Souk village getting ready for the start of the school year. The little heroes, Dee, Done, Kham, Jeulee, Lar are both excited and a bit anxious about going to school for the first time… They go with their parents to the “welcome to primary school” meeting and will soon meet each other… but shhh… if you want to know more, watch with you family and friends and let’s Learn Together!
