The Representatives from relevant departments of MoES and Senior Management teams of all TTCs meet to review the development and implementation of each subjects and to approve the results of the Primary Pre-Service Diploma Curriculum trial
The final step in the Primary Pre-Service Diploma Curriculum development, the approval of the curriculum trial findings, has been achieved by the Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES), with support from Australia. The approval workshop was held from 2nd to 4th August 2021 at the Lao National Front for Construction in Vientiane Capital to present and obtain an approval of the Primary Pre-Service Curriculum trial results by the representatives from relevant department of MoES and Senior Management teams of all TTCs.
The Workshop was chaired by Mr. Khet Phanluck, Director General of Department of Teacher Education, Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES), and co-chaired by Ms. Anna Dyason, First Secretary, Australian Embassy. It was attended by representatives from relevant departments of MoES, Senior Management teams of all Teacher Training colleges (TTCs), representatives from three Universities, the Curriculum writing teams and BEQUAL staff.
During Phase 1 of the BEQUAL program the Australian government provided support for MoES to undertake a full revision of the primary pre-service diploma curriculum and materials to improve the quality of the materials and to align the pre-service curriculum with the newly developed primary curriculum. In additional to supporting the revision of the Primary Pre-Service Curriculum, the Australian government has successfully supported MoES to build the technical capacity of TTCs team through the Professional Development Program and Scholarships for key educators. These investments have played a key role in ensuring that future primary teacher graduates will be equipped with the skills and knowledge they need to successfully implement the new primary curriculum.
Mr. Khet Phanluck, Director General of Department of Teacher Education, Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES) said “I am very pleased to be here today at the final stage of the revision of the Primary Pre-Service Curriculum to be able to witness the results of years of hard work by the Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES)”. The revised curriculum and materials have been enhanced in a number of key areas to improve the quality of teaching and learning in TTC classrooms nationally. Mr. Khet Phanluck also added “the most important change is the strong emphasis on active learning, with the new Primary Pre-Service Curriculum materials adopting a clear student-centred approach to learning, which reinforces the same approach that is so central to the new primary curriculum. This change in pedagogy is an important step forward in improving the ability of primary teachers in Laos to meet the learning needs of all students in their classroom.”

The development and revision of the Primary Pre-Service Diploma Curriculum has been a huge undertaking requiring significant commitment and support of key MoES stakeholders, from national level, Teacher Training Colleges, Universities and individual curriculum writers. The Primary Pre-Service Diploma Curriculum Trial Results Workshop provided the opportunity to review the results of the curriculum development and trial process and to take the final step in approving the revised curriculum and materials for national implementation.
